U.S. Army: Enlisted in the US Army from 6 December 1950 until 5 December 1953. Served as a combat engineer with the 82nd Airborne Division. His decorations included Parachute Badge, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal.

U. S. Air Force: Enlisted in the US Air Force on 10 January 1955 until 5 January 1966 as a munitions loader (46250) with the 509th Bomb Wing, 41st Munitions Maintenance Squadron (SAC) at Pease AFB, NH. I also know he was stationed with the 3134 Ammunition Supply Squadron, Chize Ammo Sub-Depot, Foret de Chize, France with the Army and returned to the US in 1958. His decorations included AFLSA w/2 Bronze OLC and AFGCM w/4 Bronze Loops. His AQE scores were Mechanical-7; Clerical-6; Technical Specialist-7; Electronics-7.
