The picture above is one of my relatives and is probably Joseph LaFerrière but I do not know which one. My research indicates there was a Joseph LaFerrière who served in the 7th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery, Company AHB. What is confusing is Joseph (1863) could not have served with this regiment in the Civil War due to his age. But the rolls of the 7th indicate he mustered in and out as a Private. The companies were recruited principally: A, B, C, D, E, F, G and I at Albany; H at West Troy; K at Albany, Westerlo, Bethlehem, Rensselaerville and Knox; and Land M in Albany county. Disbanded: December 31, 1862. Men transferred to the 10th regiment of artillery. This battalion, four companies, A, B, C and D, was organized at Sackett's Harbor; received its numerical designation September 16, 1862; was ordered in the field September 17, 1862; Companies A, B and C served near Washington, D. C, and Company D at Fort Schuyler, New York harbor; the battalion was discontinued December 31, 1862, its companies being transferred to the 10th Artillery as Companies H, I, K and L, respectively. |
